Postpartum Herbal Bath

In order to speed healing in the sensitive area where baby has made an appearance, this postpartum herbal bath recipe will soothe soreness, aid in healing hemorrhoids that sometimes appear from pushing and discourage infection.  This bath will encourage much needed relaxation and healing.

Lavender

This relaxing floral scent was an important ingredient in ancient Roman Baths. It not only promotes restfulness, but it is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and an antioxidant.

Plantain Leaf

This herb has been used for centuries in order to heal inflammation and promote quick healing.

Witch Hazel

An ancient herb used for hemorrhoid relief and treatment is known for its anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.

Yarrow

Both the dried herb and flowers can be used with similar properties. Yarrow has wonderful antibacterial and anti fungal compounds that helps in replenishing the intestinal flora. It is known to help in stopping bleeding from hemorrhage.

 Calendula

This herb is known for its amazing anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown its effectiveness in healing wounds.

Chamomile

This herb has an relaxing scent an is helpful to soothe anxiety, and inflammation. It is also a natural antibiotic, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal.

  • 1 ounces lavender blossoms
  • 1 ounces plantain leaf
  • 1 ounces witch hazel
  • 1 ounces yarrow
  • 1 ounces calendula
  • 1 ounces chamomile

Combine all ingredients well. After the birth of baby have a loved one step the herbs in 2 quarts of boiling water for 15-20 minutes as if you were  making a tea and adding one cup of sea salt. Drain out herbs in colander leaving just the liquid. Run a tub of water for the bath.  Pour the herbal bath liquid with the salt into the water.  Mom and baby can enjoy a relaxing soak in the healing herb bath. Soak for 15-20 minutes for the full benefits.
